Riot police in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau clashed with anti-government protesters on August 27 as the country’s leaders were set to mark Independence Day, Radio Free Europe reported.
The demonstration was the latest in a series of protests against corruption and controversial electoral reforms that opposition groups said would strengthen Moldova’s ruling Democratic Party, the outlet said.
The Russian news agency TASS reported that Moldovan President Igor Dodon condemned the protests and expressed concerns over the possible escalation of violence.
