PV Sindhu of India, ranked third in the world, coasted past her round of sixteen opponent, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia, winning in straight sets 21-12, 21-15.
Understandably Sindhu was pleased at making a solid start to her campaign in the individual women's event.
The week also brought cheer for Sindhu from outside the courts after the Indian was ranked seventh in the Forbes top-ten list of highest earning female athletes in the world.
The list was topped by tennis star Serena Williams ($18 million US dollars), with Russia's Maria Sharapova ($9.5 million US dollars) in the fifth spot. Sindhu earned $8.5 million US dollars last year to stay seventh in the list.
