The case of an innocent woman who says she was left bleeding badly after special forces mistakenly raided her home has horrified Russia.

Inga Volzhenina says she and her four-year-old daughter were woken at 6 am on August 10 by the sound of breaking glass.

When they looked through the window of their home in Barnaul in Siberia, they saw a gun pointed directly at them, Volzhenina says.

Assuming burglars were trying to break in, Volzhenina attempted to push the man holding the gun backwards.

In the ensuing struggle, Volzhenina says she severely lacerated her arms on shards of broken glass.

The men entered her home regardless and produced a search warrant with her address on Logovskaya Street clearly marked on it, according to Volzhenina.

The officers said they were searching for a man by the name of Danilov, according to Volzhenina.

Volzhenina says she immediately informed them that no such person had ever lived at the property but the special forces members continued their search, even though her terrified four-year-old daughter was crying.

The officers only abandoned their fruitless search when Volzhenina produced a list of previous tenants of the property, which clearly showed that no-one called Danilov had ever lived there.

Even though she was by now bleeding heavily from her arm, Volzhenina claims an officer turned to her and said: "what did you get into, you fool?"

The officers then left her home with the window broken, pools of blood on the floor and no apology for their error, Volzhenina says.

Volzhenina is calling on the government to pay her medical bills and those of her daughter who she says was severely distressed by the incident.

The case is being investigated by the police department but no offers of compensation or an apology have yet been given to Volzhenina or her family.
