President Trump on Saturday warned about China in a tweet.
President Trump has urged so-called "fools" fixated on Russia to be more critical of China.
He tweeted Saturday morning: "All of the fools that are so focused on looking only at Russia should start also looking in another direction, China. But in the end, if we are smart, tough and well prepared, we will get along with everyone!"
While the president did not provide further explanation, tensions with China have escalated amid the threat of a trade war underpinned by tens of billions of dollars in retaliatory tariffs.
The U.S. has cited China's intellectual property theft as one of the motivating factors behind the tariffs, but some experts are said to believe that Trump is working to undermine China's ascent as a world superpower.
Meanwhile, Fox News recently reported, based on a new Pentagon report, that "China is likely training for bombing strikes against U.S. targets, while developing its nuclear capabilities."
China's goal, according to the Pentagon, is to "establish regional preeminence and expand the country's international influence."
