In Santa Monica, California, electric scooter companies protested the city by taking their scooters off the streets for a day. The city of Santa Monica announced this week that it would block two venture-backed startups from operating. The shutdown on Tuesday, called "A Day Without a Scooter," as well as a protest outside City Hall, was part of a joint campaign from scooter startups Bird and Lime.
