The dispute between the U.S. and Turkey is showing no signs of dying down... and with that... there are growing concerns over Turkey's financial market.

The United States’ second appeal to free American pastor Andrew Brunson,who is being held in Turkey, was once again rejected Wednesday. The Trump administration criticized the decision, and said that Turkey was taking the "wrong direction" with its retaliatory measures to U.S. tariffs.


"We feel that Turkey and specifically President Erdogan have treated Pastor Brunson, who we know to be a very good person and a strong Christian who has done nothing wrong, very unfairly, very badly. And it's something that we won't forget in the administration."

Tensions between Turkey and the United States have been strained amid Turkey’s detention of American pastor Brunson, who was accused of supporting an attempted coup against Turkish President Erdogan two years ago.

The Trump administration earlier this month doubled tariffs on imports of Turkish steel and aluminum. In response, the Turkish government announced a boycott of U.S.-made electronic goods.


"What we say to you here is what we've said in discussions There's a judicial process in Turkey and you must respect it."

Though the tumbling lira recovered slightly this week as Turkey’s central bank laid out measures to support the currency, Turkey’s financial situation could still worsen due to the deepening tensions between the two countries.
