A 74-year-old man, missing for nearly two days in a remote area of Alaska’s Chilkat Valley, was found alive and in stable condition on August 12, several miles west of his home in Klukwan, the US Coast Guard and local police said.
The Haines Borough Police Department said early on August 12 a search was underway for Valentino Burattin, before reporting about 13 hours later that he had been found.
The coast guard said they found Burattin in a heavily wooded area near Walker Lake, and shared this footage showing him being located and hoisted into a helicopter before being taken for medical treatment in Haines, about 28 miles south-west of the lake. Burattin was in “good condition with no injuries,” the coast guard said.
