Ranch Fire Becomes Largest Wildfire in California History

The Ranch Fire in California’s Mendocino, Lake and Colusa counties became the largest single wildfire in the state’s history on August 13.

The fire began on July 27 and as of August 13 had consumed 295,970 acres and was 59 percent contained. Previously, the Mendocino Complex, made up of the Ranch and River Fires, surpassed last year’s Thomas Fire as the largest on record.
