Senior police officers, including district police chiefs, will be required to attend English courses following an instruction by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to enhance their English proficiency.
Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said initially, 30 senior police officers across Peninsular Malaysia, have been selected to undergo the five-day course at the Royal Malaysia Police College in Kuala Lumpur.
In a press conference later, Fuzi said Mahathir has also instructed and encouraged police officers to speak English during police briefings.
Fuzi said the standard of English among police officers in the country were currently at a moderate level, and acknowledged there's room for improvement.
