A boy, who was a sole survivor of a plane crash in Indonesia’s Papua province that killed eight people, was evacuated from Menuk Mountain on Sunday, August 12.

“The survivor is a 12-year-old child named Jumaidi,” police spokesman Ahmad Mustofa Kamal told BBC News Indonesia, adding that the boy was first taken to the Oksibil General Hospital but was later transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital in Jayapura, the provincial capital.

Seven passengers and two pilots were on board the Dimonim Air charter flight from Tanahmerah to Oksibil on Saturday afternoon, August 11. Air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane around around 3 pm shortly before it was expected to land.

It took the rescue team, which included police, military and Search and Rescue Agency personnel, two hours walking from a nearby village to reach the plane wreckage on August 12.
