Korea's leading ballet dancers have come together to perform the Song of the Mermaid, a fantasy ballet inspired by the timeless fairy tale, 'A Little Mermaid.'
The production opened Friday evening in Western Seoul for a three day run,... choreographed by globally acclaimed dancer and director Kim Sun-hee.
"The first part takes place in an imaginary world under the sea -- so I wanted to give off the air of sea life and creatures beneath Korea's Dokdo Island, or the East Sea. The second part is a western story, but I tried to convey a slightly Korean atmosphere in all the movements and actions."
The production has been staged since 2001, and features Korea's up and coming ballet dancers -- most of whom have won prestigious international prizes.
This year's line up includes ballerinas Lee Soo-bin and Park Seon-mi who will share the role of the mermaid,... while the prince will be played by Lee Sang-min and Yang Jun-young.
The ballet will also be performed in New York City in late October.
