Every year millions of Shiva devotees (Kanwariyas) take part in an annual pilgrimage during the month of Shravan. And every year stories of vandalism and hooliganism abound. This year too, the annual Kanwar Yatra has concluded and at the centre are controversies related to 'Kanwariyas' vandalizing cars in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Police are being accused of being hesitant in acting against rowdy shiv bhakts. This especially after the Additional Director General of U.P. Police (Meerut Zone) Prashant Kumar was seen showering flower petals from a chopper over kanwariyas.
