Rashida Tlaib, daughter of Palestinian immigrants, set to become the first Muslim woman to be elected to the US Congress. Rashida Tlaib won a Democratic primary election to represent Michigan’s 13th district. She is set to become America’s first ever Muslim woman elected to US Congress. Ms Tlaib will enter Congress unopposed after a special election that is due to be held on November 8, 2018. She will formally replace John Conyers Jr, who served from 1965, on this date. Rashida is widely considered to be a rising star in Michigan's political scene. She rose to prominence in 2008 when she became the state legislature's first female Muslim member. Earlier in 2015, Rashida expressed dismay when then-candidate President Donald Trump proposed to ban all Muslim immigration to the US.
