South Korea’s domestic airlines have increased their earnings from foreign passengers in the first half of 2018,... putting an end to 6 years of decline.
According to the Bank of Korea, airlines made around 2 billion U.S. dollars of revenue from foreign passengers during the first half of this year, up 17-point-8 percent from the same period last year.
Annual revenues from foreign passengers had been in decline, falling from a peak of around 5-and-a-half billion dollars in 2012 to just 3-point-5 billion dollars last year.
The turnaround is attributed to a rise in the number of foreigners entering Korea.
7-point-2 million foreigners entered Korea in the first half of this year, with the number of Chinese visitors on the rise after the retaliatory measures over the U.S. missile defense system THAAD started being lifted.
