Facebook has removed 32 accounts and pages suspected of engaging in disruptive political campaigns.
For more on this and other news from around the world, we turn to our Oh Soo-young.
So Soo-young,... this suspicious activity comes just ahead of the U.S. mid-elections.
That's right. Facebook removed the accounts on Tuesday,... citing "coordinated, inauthentic behavior" that supports certain political causes in America. These included groups from both the right and left of the political spectrum,... endorsing white supremacy on one side,... and the shutdown of the immigration agency on the other.
The users behind the accounts had accrued some 290-thousand followers,... and concealed locations and identities by using virtual private networks.
They also paid third parties for ads on Facebook and Instagram.
What was unsettling about these activities,... was the fact that they mirrored alleged Russian attempts to disrupt the U.S. presidential election two years ago.
Also, the timing of the events and content posted by these groups,... raises concerns due the impending mid-term elections in the U.S.
Facebook has said it would continue investigating and will share further findings with Congress and the authorities.
