The driver noticed smoke coming from the engine at 5.50pm local time - sending passengers running for their lives. Flames quickly engulfed the vehicle next to the Bang Chak BTS Sky Train station in the bustling Phra Khanong district on the Sukhumvit Road in the Thai capital.The road was closed while fire crews battled the flames, which spread to the overhead powerbrcables which like the street.
