Brendan Greene, perhaps better known as PlayerUnknown, helped popularize the "Battle Royale" video game genre with his massive hit shooter, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Using ARMA 3 as a base, Greene was able to create mods with gameplay based on the Japanese cult classic movie "Battle Royale." Once PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds released (a standalone game based on Greene's popular mods) it sent ripples throughout the gaming community.
