Republicans Choose City for 2020
Presidential Convention Republicans have voted to hold their 2020 presidential nominating convention in
Charlotte, North Carolina. Democrats held their nominating convention in Charlotte just six years ago in 2012. The Southern swing state is critical to Donald Trump’s chances of seeing a second term in the White House. North Carolina has also been a highly coveted prize for both the Republican and Democratic parties in recent elections. Democrat Barack Obama won the state’s 15 electoral votes in 2008, but Republicans captured it in 2012
and 2016. The only other city that was seriously considered by the GOP to host the convention was
Las Vegas, Nevada.
