Baltimore’s Lexington Market reopened on Saturday, July 14, after a video of a rat scurrying over cakes and cookies at Buttercup Bakery went viral, prompting a temporary closure.
Milton Mitchell, who works at the nearby Celebrity Cuts Barber Shop, told Fox Baltimore that he filmed the incident while he was visiting the market to buy cookies for his wife.
Lexington Market said in a statement that it would close temporarily to assess the situation. In a subsequent statement, the management team announced that the market would reopen Saturday morning and the entire premises would continue to be treated.
The Baltimore Sun reported that city health officials who closed the Buttercup bakery stall after the incident also discovered a fly infestation at Berger’s Bakery nearby and also closed that stall. Officials with Baltimore Public Markets said the problem had been "contained and resolved,” the report said. Credit: Milton Mitchell via Storyful
