The UN Security Council has approved a request from South Korea... for an exception to the sanctions on the North... so it can send fuel and vehicles for the purpose of restoring military communication lines.
Kyodo News reported Sunday, citing diplomatic sources,... that the committee on North Korea sanctions decided to allow the South Korean government to send gasoline, buses, trucks, and other items.
Those sources said none of the council's fifteen member nations objected.
In their summit earlier this year, the leaders of the two Koreas leaders had agreed to ease military tensions and improve communications to prevent accidental clashes.
UN sanctions currently restrict the supply of fuel and other items flowing into North Korea for military purposes but they allow for exceptions on humanitarian grounds.
