Another victim of Japan's wartime sexual slavery, one of the so-called "comfort women," has died, bringing the number of victims in Korea still living... to 27.
The Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan... says Kim Bok-deuk passed away on Sunday at the age of 101.
When she was 22, she went to the Philippines with hopes of securing a job at a factory but was instead taken to a brothel for the Japanese military.
Kim was a plaintiff in a 2016 Supreme Court case involving the 2015 agreement between Korea and Japan on settling the issue.
She argued that the deal infringes on the basic human rights of survivors and that it goes against a 2011 ruling by exempting Japan from having to pay compensation.
