According to a report by Reuters, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei claimed that economic pressure placed on Iran by the United States is intended to turn Iranians against the government. On Saturday, as Iran is likely to face reimposed US sanctions, Khamenei said, "they bring to bear economic pressure to separate the nation from the system ... but six U.S. presidents before him tried this and had to give up."
