Isolee's 'Beau Mot Plage' is house, but more for the dark backrooms than the strobe-lit super clubs. Its lifting dreamlike housescape is built around a constant groove which is enlivened by reverberated synth melodies flowing in and out of the mix throughout. Shimmering with a hazy dub feel, acoustic guitars and Afro-strumming make the kind of hallucinogenic magic you'd get if you crossed Larry Heard, New Order and Sueno Latino. Having sat proudly at the other end of the spectrum to commercial dance music, it slowly crept across the board of genres to surface not only in the world of deep house but also wangled its way into hearts of all true music lovers. Why? Because it was unusual, enchanting, subtle and yet beautifully radical.
Freeform Five's remix reconstructs the original in to an epic 10 minute track with added sound effects, congas, saxophones, flutes, twists and turns and who knows what else. The previously unreleased Onionz Mash Up mix is much more of a straight up house affair, adding more electronic elements, cowbell stabs, snappy hand claps but still maintaining the organic vibe of the original to create a version which works much more for the peak time moments on any dancefloor.
