Protesters gathered on the steps of the Allegheny County Courthouse in Pittsburgh on Thursday, June 21, to demand justice for Antwon Rose, who was fatally shot by police in East Pittsburgh earlier this week.

A similar protest was held Wednesday night at the East Pittsburgh Police Department, with attendants wanting answers about why Rose, who was unarmed, was killed. Police said Rose, 17, was shot while running from a traffic stop.

A speaker at Thursday’s protest read a poem Rose wrote two years ago called “Confused and Afraid,” describing his fear of violence. This video shows the poem, which has “circulated in media reports”:media reports, being read.

Police told local media the officer who shot Rose is Michael Rosfeld, sworn in as an officer in East Pittsburgh just hours before the shooting. Rosfeld has worked for several area police departments and is on paid leave during an investigation. Credit: Nicole McAfee via Storyful
