A group of protesters attempted to disrupt President Rodrigo Duterte’s Independence Day speech in Cavite, the Philippines, on June 12.
According to local reports, the activists chanted “Duterte trahidor,” or “traitor,” before police restrained them and brought them back into the crowd. One protester was arrested.
The president was briefly caught off guard, the Phil Star said, before he continued his speech, noting, “freedom of the press, freedom of assembly and free expression” were guaranteed by the country’s constitution.
