Jacob Campoamor was out fishing with his family off the coast of Anna Maria Island in Florida on Saturday, June 2, when they spotted a group of five whale sharks in the water.
Campoamor, whose family has owned a home on the island for 50 years, told FLKeysNews, “We see a lot of cool stuff, but this is the first time seeing whale sharks.”
Researchers in Florida have called on the public to report further sightings. In a news release from Mote Marine Laboratory, Dr Bob Hueter said, “It’s exciting that we are hearing reports of five whale sharks in one area, because it suggests they might be feeding on something in a special spot.” Credit: Jacob Campoamor via Storyful
