An Iowa judge has temporarily blocked the state’s new abortion law, from taking effect on July 1st.
The strictest of its kind, it effectively bans the procedure after a fetal heartbeat is detected.
This may come at about the six-week mark, before a woman even realizes she is pregnant.
The temporary block allows opponents and defenders of the measure to present legal arguments.
Attorneys for the Thomas More Society, defending the law for the state, agreed not to contest the court order.
