A quick-thinking dad saved a trapped deer fawn from drowning in a canal by throwing it a lifebelt and pulling it to safety. Lindsay Wannan, 39, was cycling along the canal and left stunned when he spotted the animal struggling in the water. The nightshift worker had just finished his shift at the petrochemical site in Grangemouth, near Falkirk, when he jumped into action on Wednesday morning. Lindsay, from nearby Stenhousemuir, said: "There was a deer swimming in the water - not something you see every day, so I got my phone out to film it."
