Police are investigating claims that vandals abseiled into a world-famous cave and sprayed the interior with graffiti. Bosses at Wookey Hole Caves near Wells, Somerset, believe the culprits lowered themselves on ropes during the night and left a series of "cave painting style" artworks. The first, depicting a 4ft woolly mammoth chasing people, was left on the inside of the caves while the second, which shows a policeman chasing people, was left on the exit. They then broke open a padlock where the public normally exit the caves before making their escape over a swing rope bridge, according to the attraction. Daniel Medley, manager at the caves which attract 40,000 people each year, described the incident as a "very well-organised and outlandish attack".
