The victory of Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate in Bihar's Jokihat assembly seat has been hailed as the victory of Lalu Prasad's ideology by his son and party leader Tejashwi Yadav. RJD candidate Shahnawaz Alam won the bypoll, defeating Janata Dal(United) nominee Murshid Alam by over 41,225 votes. Reacting to the result, former deputy chief minsiter Tejashwi Yadav called it as the victory of 'Laluvaad' over 'avsarvaad' (opportunism). Shahnawaz, the youngest son of late RJD stalwart Md Taslimuddin, secured 81,240 votes to Murshid’s 40,015. In 2015, Sarfaraz Alam – the eldest son of Taslimuddin – had successfully contested the seat on a JD-U ticket to get 92,890 votes. By-elections to four Lok Sabha and ten assembly seats including Jokihat were held on May 28 and results declared on May 31.
