Archaeologists in Pompeii have discovered the remains of a man who they believe may have been decapitated by a large rock while fleeing the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius two thousand years ago.
They added that the stone block may have been a door jamb, which was violently thrown by the volcanic cloud towards the victim's head.
The archaeologists also said they found a bone infection in his leg which could have slowed him down as he was trying to flee the doomed city.
The famous Vesuvius eruption of 79 AD is thought to have killed about two thousand Pompeii residents, leaving many of them frozen in place.
