French President Emmanuel Macron met with a Malian man dubbed the Spiderman of Paris at the Elysee Palace on Monday, May 28, to acknowledge the bravery he showed in rescuing a small boy dangling from a balcony the previous Saturday.

The man, named in reports as Mamoudou Gassama, was awarded with citizenship and a job offer as a firefighter.

Dramatic video of the incident was posted online, showing Gassama scaling the building to reach the child.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo praised the young migrant for his “act of bravery.” She said she was keen to assist him in his efforts to settle in France. Credit: Élysée via Storyful
