Saudi Arabia Continues Crackdown On Women's Rights Activists

At least three more women's rights activists have been arrested in Saudi Arabia in a widening crackdown just weeks before a ban on women driving is set to end. Last week rights groups reported the detention of seven activists, mostly women who previously campaigned for the right to drive and an end to the kingdom’s male guardianship system. During recent trips to the United States and Europe Saudi Arabia's crown prince had courted Western allies. A spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department said the U.S. supported the Saudi reform agenda but was concerned about the arrests.
