In a huge aid to single mothers, the Madras high court has now ordered the deletion of the existing name in the father’s name column of the birth certificate of a child. This comes after a single mother who was struggling to get an error rectified in her child’s birth record had approached the court. The petitioner who gave birth to a child through IFV with the help of a sperm donor was given a birth certificate by the corporation which showed her friend’s name as the father’s name. After the approached the court the HC ordered the deletion of the existing name in the father’s name column.
