An anti-abortion activist attacked a man outside a Sydney clinic on January 30, 2016, while the man’s partner and her mother were inside.

CCTV footage shows the man being confronted by Paul Hanrahan, leader of anti-abortion protest group Helpers of God’s Precious Infants, 9News reported.

Hanrahan can be seen pointing a finger at the man, before a second man in a red cap talks to and punches the victim in the face. Other protesters and onlookers try to separate the two.

The attacker was not convicted as police could not prove his identity.

Hanrahan alleged the young man was “baiting” his group with bad language. He said they engaged only in “peaceful, prayerful vigils outside abortion clinics.” The group meets outside the Surry Hills clinic three times a week.

This footage came to light just as a bill was introduced to the New South Wales Upper House on May 17. The proposed law would prohibit protesters from interfering with women, who seek terminations of pregnancy, within 150 metres of abortion clinics in the state. It will be debated on May 24 and if pass, will bring New South Wales in line with legislation in Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Credit: The Private Clinic via Storyful
