The World Health Organization has released a plan to help countries wipe out trans fats from the global food supply in the next five years.
It says industrial-made trans fats used in baked and fried foods, as well as snacks, are responsible for half a million deaths worldwide each year.
Several governments around the world have been implementing measures to reduce trans fats.
But the WHO is calling on others to follow suit and recommends that no more than one percent of a person's calories should come from trans fats.
If these measures are upheld, the UN health agency is confident the world can reduce cardiovascular diseases within five years.
