Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday addressed a recent comment by a White House aide.
The White House has confirmed that Kelly Sadler, the communications aide who reportedly joked about Senator John McCain "dying," has not been fired.
During a briefing Friday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders avoided multiple questions about Sadler by repeating her refusal to "validate a leak, one or the other, out of an internal staff meeting."
However, when a reporter asked if the aide still worked at the White House, Sanders said, "Yes, she does."
The questions followed a report that during a meeting, Sadler dismissed McCain's opposition to CIA nominee Gina Haspel by saying, "It doesn't matter, he's dying anyway."
The 81-year-old senator from Arizona is currently battling brain cancer.
An official told CNN that Sadler's comment was meant to be a joke, "but it fell flat."
Several people, including a Republican Congressman and McCain's daughter Meghan McCain, have since called for the aide to lose her job over the remark.
