Pompeii Archaeological Park has shared fascinating footage and imagery showing the discovery of the intact figure of a horse, which perished when the ancient city was covered in volcanic ash after a 79AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
Footage shot by local police and the park – an arm of Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities – was shared on May 10, and shows the careful process that went into uncovering the horse’s remains.
A statement from the park noted that this was the first such discovery in the many years of excavations. Credit: Parco Archeologico di Pompeii via Storyful
