An employee at a Virginia hotel was fired after he called a black man a “monkey” during an argument captured on video on May 4.

Dee Fogleman, who recorded the incident, said he was at the hotel as his mother had checked in on a visit from out of town.

He said his mother was put in a room that smelled of smoke, despite having asked for a non-smoking room.

Fogleman said he went to reception to ask that the situation be rectified. The conversation escalated with the clerk, referred to as Dwayne in the video, shouting at the Fogleman. The manager tells Fogleman to “get off my property.” As he turns his back he says, “F***ing monkey.”

In a statement issued to local media, the hotel’s general manager, Lisa Little, said the employee had been “terminated”.
