Yadier Molina has played more than 1,700 games behind the plate, but probably none were more painful than Saturday.
The Cardinals catcher took a baseball off the groin following a foul tip from Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant.
To make matters worse, his battery mate, Jordan Hicks, fired the ball in to Molina at 102 mph.
Molina went down in a heap and was taken to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery to treat a traumatic hematoma. The 35-year-old backstop is expected to miss roughly a month.
