‘Avengers’ Director Joss Whedon Defends ‘Wonder Woman’ Script I don’t know which parts people didn’t like, but I went and reread the script after I heard there was a backlash. I think it’s great. Whedon originally wrote a script for a ‘Wonder Woman’ movie in 2006 but it was never produced. Last June, when critics were praising Patty Jenkins’ film about the female superhero, Whedon’s old script surfaced and was ripped apart by critics. [Tweet] People say that it’s not woke enough. I think they’re not looking at the big picture. It’s easy to take one phrase out of context. Whedon also said that he loved Jenkins’ take on ‘Wonder Woman’, despite having his version shot down years earlier. I had such a good time that I didn’t think about my script. And I’m the person who should've hated it, because I really loved my script.
