Andhra Pradesh observed a one-day statewide bandh on Monday over the demand of Special Status for the state. The state was bifurcated in 2014 and the political parties have been protesting against the Centre for not fulfilling its promise of special status tag. A special status would allow Andhra Pradesh a greater share of aid from the Union government but the Centre has ruled out special status saying that the state has been compensated adequately. The bandh was called by Pratyeka Hoda Saadhana Samiti - a committee to achieve special category status. This bandh evoked violent response in the state.
