Taxi drivers rushing to get their 1Malaysia Taxi Aid cards announced by caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak today caused a stampede injuring several people.
According to Kwong Wah Daily, the situation turned chaotic when taxi drivers at the event rushed to registration counters to collect their 1Malaysia Taxi Aid cards.
According to reports, children and senior citizens were seen crying for help.
People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) and police personnel tried to control the situation by closing the metal shutters, however taxi drivers who were still outside kept trying to rush in.
Earlier today, caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has announced RM53.6 million worth of aid for taxi drivers nationwide.
The money will be used to provide 67,000 taxi drivers with 1Malaysia Taxi Aid cards, which allows them to pump RM800 worth of fuel.
