The Election Commission today announced the dates for Karnataka Assembly elections. Elections would be held in a single phase. The polls will be held on May 12 and the results would be announced on May 15. While Karnataka elections are critical for the Congress which has been wiped out from most major states it used to rule, they are also important for the BJP to make inroads into the south. The BJP is leaving no stone unturned to unseat the Congress. BJP President Amit Shah lashed out at Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah for dividing Hindus by giving separate religion status for Lingayats. Shah had earlier said the BJP's tsunami would drown the Congress in Karnataka. Karnataka is all set to see a triangular fight with the Janata Dal (Secular)-led by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda-also emerging as the third player in the fray.
