Rapper and activist Killer Mike responded on March 25 to backlash over an interview he did with the NRA in videos posted across his social profiles, saying his comments were misused by the organization to disparage the student-led gun protests.
“I sat with people I might not always agree with,” he said in the video. “I sat with a group called the National Rifle Association; I did an interview about black gun ownership in this era.”
Killer Mike apologized to the student organizers, saying, “I’m sorry that an interview I did about a minority, black people in this country, and gun rights was used as a weapon against you guys. That was unfair to you and it was wrong, and it disparaged some very noble work you’re doing.”
He affirmed his support of the march and the student organizers and his position as an activist and ally on many different issues. “I do support the march and I do support black people owning guns.”
