Austin Police warned residents to stay indoors until authorities have given the all-clear after an explosion resulted in at least two injuries on March 16. Sunday’s incident were the fourth reported explosion in under three weeks.
Chief Brian Manley, during a press conference, said an explosion occurred along the 4800 area of Dawn Song Dr and that two people were transported to hospital with significant but non-life threatening injuries. Manley urged residents to avoid touching packages and “stay inside your homes until we have a chance to deem this neighborhood safe, and that will not be, at a minimum, until daylight.”
He added that police were looking at a backpack that was found in the area. They did not state whether the explosion was connected to a suspicious package.
Sunday night’s incident is the latest in a series of explosions that occurred this month in Austin, with the other incidents starting from the beginning of the month being associated with suspicious packages. The explosions are suspected to linked to hate crimes, according to CBS News, and the first occurred on March 2 while two more were reported March 12.
