The Animal Foundation is taking precautions to protect dogs from a highly contagious dog flu expected to hit the Las Vegas Valley soon. Dogs currently in the shelter population are being vaccinated for the H3N2 strain of the Canine Influenza Virus (CIV). All new dogs six weeks of age or older will be vaccinated immediately after arrival at the shelter, the Animal Foundation said. Dogs that remain at the shelter for longer than two weeks will receive booster vaccines. The public can get their dogs vaccinated at the shelter's clinic during the week from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekends. The cost is $20 for both doses.
