Early in the morning, from a perch in a tree house blind at Shenton Safaria Kaingo Camp in South Luangwa National Park next to the Luangwa River in Zambia, one can witness elephant families crossing the river following the same route they have taken for decades. The matriarch elephants retreated, formed a circle around the baby, prepared for attack, then slowly worked their way to shore to safety, then shrieked for relief once all were safe.
