Amid fierce competition for the next generation of TV displays, Korean researchers have developed a way to convert videos to ultra high definition resolution using artificial intelligence.
Park Se-young has more.
Last year, Korea became the first country in the world to offer terrestrial broadcasts in Ultra High Definition, or UHD.
However, the lack of infrastructure and the burden of heavy production costs have led to a content shortage.
This is why Korean researchers have developed a technology that uses artificial intelligence to upgrade high-definition content to ultra-high definition.
"Using deep learning technology, our system takes low-resolution videos and produces high quality videos."
The technology can convert HD clips to UHD resolution and repair blurry videos in real time.
The world's first case of AI-applied image processing can be used for UHD broadcasting content, 360-degree virtual reality content and content delivered through the internet.
The technology is expected to serve as a future growth engine for Korea's display market.
