A baby monkey sat clinging to his dead mother in a heart-breaking scene.
The mother monkey died after touching a live wire near Gadag in South India on February 14.
The baby, which was playing in the vicinity, rushed to the mother and tried to wake her up.
As Hindus regard monkeys as sacred animals, local residents decided to give the dead mother a ritual burial.
They placed her on a makeshift platform and adorned her with a garland made of flowers. The baby monkey sensing something was amiss sat clinging on to her.
The sight of the baby not letting go of his dead mother drew a large crowd there was no dry eye around.
Manohar Kulkarni, an eyewitness, said: “It was very tough to separate the baby from his mother. He has been adopted by an animal welfare organisation.”
